Punch Lane Wine Bar and Restaurant is one of the CBD’s long-running successes. Now celebrating 15 years, Punch Lane is regarded as a Melbourne institution. It is uniquely Melbourne and has built a strong and enviable reputation for its intimate setting, unpretentious food, exciting wine list, bar culture and personable service.
The building is old, dating back to the 1800's and was in fact the city's original Police Station. Today it has a smart casual air with a warm, good humoured atmosphere. The interior is dominated by a large well stocked bar and a huge blackboard on one wall that lists excellent cheeses and wines by the glass. The floors are polished timber, the tables are bare and the chairs are comfortable - especially the red leather ones.
Serving Modern European fare and taking influences from Spain, Italy and France Punch Lane's philosophy on food is to use the best fresh seasonal produce available; the ever-changing menu is always celebrating and exploring what each season has to offer. The cellar is well stocked with Australian classics, emerging gems from small producers and many beauties from New Zealand and Europe.
Set in the heart of the city's bustling theatre district, the location for pre and post theatre suppers is a must and for special business and social events, Punch Lane offers an ideal setting. Perfect for parties of up to 24 guests, the private room is intimate and features a beautiful wrought iron centrepiece, large handmade mirror, a wall of wine and views of Little Bourke Street.
